D-11- #988H - This is a very nice antique wood barrel tap or spigot. This piece would be inserted into a wood barrel keg and used to extract liquid by opening and shutting the valve to allow liquid to flow. This barrel tap is all wood with a wood tap that inserts into the spout - turn the wood valve and you control the flow of the liquid. This barrel tap has an original label identifying it as "REDLICH'S Warranted Faucets". The label continues to read, "Fully Saturated with India Rubber, H. Redlich, Chicago". There is an additional label on barrel that has darkened making it difficult to see but there is an 1893 date in the middle of the label along with 'Columbia Exposition & Chicago" - not sure what it is referring to. Labels have had a protective coating applied to them to prevent further deterioration. This piece is loaded with character from age and use and has a nice warm patina. These old barrel taps make wonderful taps for a rain barrel and look great in primitive settings. See condition below>
