P - #473ha - Brief History: In the 1960s Red Rose tea in Canada added a promotional surprise to their packages of tea that was a delight to young & old alike. These little china figures made by the George Wade Pottery of Burslem England, known as 'Wades' were cherished & collected. Due to the popularity in Canada, a full scale launch began in the US in the 1980s. Different series were given out & once a series was closed out, availability was limited to trading with other collectors. They come in a variety of different colors with wonderful detail with a graded base. Rumor is - they were often used in pubs & kitchens as 'strikers' for matches.
This set of 13 different figurines from the circus series includes:
Gray Elephant (shows up as blue on camera)
Each wade is marked Wade Eng (blue clown has a portion of that mark) and range in size from 1.25" to 1.75" tall. A wonderful little collection that is a delight to own. I believe the series included two chimps - other than that, this set I believe is complete. See condition details below>
SIZE: Range in size from 1.25" to 1.75"
CONDITION: Pre-owned - vintage; no chips or cracks; blue clown has a little rough edge around base - original to piece with just a portion of the identification Wade - Eng
