#139kw - This is a very nice 19th century cast iron flat iron or sad iron that was a necessity during this time period for pressing the laundry. These old wash day pieces were heated on a burner & then used while hot to get the wrinkles out of their garments. This particular sad iron measures 5 7/8" from the tip of the sole to the back & 4" wide at the widest point of the sole. It stands approx. 4 1/2" tall including the handle. It has a sloping handle with a rolled steel hand hold, that was designed to make it easy to use. There are no markings or numbers on this flat iron. This is a very nice antique piece that is essential to all antique laundry displays. They make great book ends and door stops as well & come in handy as a weight when you need to apply pressure to any project that requires glueing etc.
SIZE: See dimensions above; length 5 7/8"
Condition: Very good; No breaks in the iron; Handle securely attached with very slight lean to one side; some characteristic & minor surface rust from age & use.
